Watch for Signs of Gasket Problems to Catch Them Early

Gaskets are thin, usually flat interfaces that create seals between vehicle components, like the head gasket, intake manifold, and exhaust manifold. They bond the separate surfaces and prevent the leakage or mixing of fluids and gases. Although made of durable materials like steel or copper, overheating engines, excessive coolant pressure, or improper torque on head bolts could make them fail.

Gargling sounds in the radiator, high coolant pressure, and white exhaust smoke indicate gasket failures. Another sign of a worsening problem is an engine overheating because antifreeze is mixing with the motor oil. When this happens, you’ll see a mayonnaise-like residue on the dipstick or oil filter cap.

To correct gasket failures before costly damage results, bring your vehicle to our service center in St Joseph. We’ll track down the problem at Car City Chrysler Dodge Jeep RAM.
